For placing rather than holding: a photo-etch part onto wet glue, a decal off its backing, a 0.5 mm handle into a hole you can barely see. The points are closed and dressed under magnification so they meet along their length rather than crossing, which is the difference between picking a part up and flicking it across the room.

A hundred and twenty millimetres is deliberately short. A long tweezer amplifies every tremor in your hand; a short one is steadier and gets your fingers closer to the work, which is where you want to be looking anyway.

These are the tool most likely to be ruined by using them for the wrong job. The points are fine enough to place a rivet and far too fine to pull anything.

The specification

Everything we know about this item, stated plainly. The same record is printed on the card in the box.

Fits
Points meet along a 3 mm dressed length and close to under 0.1 mm. Suits photo-etch, decals, rigging and parts down to about 0.3 mm.
Service life
Years, or one drop onto a hard floor - whichever comes first. The check is the same paper-and-light test as the reverse-action pair. A tip bent by less than half a millimetre can sometimes be dressed back on 2000 film; anything more and it will never meet cleanly again.
Composition
Non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel, single-piece formed body, points closed and dressed by hand under magnification.
Dimensions
120 mm overall, 0.4 mm at the tip
Weight
11 g
Made
Formed and hand-aligned in Northern Italy from non-magnetic stainless strip, points closed and dressed under magnification.

Fitting & care

  • Close the points on a piece of paper to check alignment before first use; they should meet along their whole length.
  • Pick up by the flats, not the points. Points bend at the tip and never come back square.
  • Store points-down in a tray or a roll rather than loose in a drawer.
  • Keep these separate from the reverse-action pair. Tweezers stored loose together are how points get bent.

Cautions

  • Not for pulling parts off a fret or a sprue. Use a cutter; a tweezer used as a puller springs open and stops meeting.
  • Not for holding anything under a flame or a soldering iron. Heat draws the temper out of the spring and the tool stays open.
  • Not for use as a probe or a screwdriver. The points are the whole tool.
  • Not for photo-etch removal from a fret, for bending metal, or for holding anything that resists.
