Ten small spring clamps for holding a glued joint closed while it sets. Plastic cement needs pressure and time, and holding a fuselage seam by hand for four minutes is how a seam ends up misaligned.

The jaws are flat and parallel rather than pointed, so they spread their load along a seam instead of denting it in two places. The spring is deliberately light - heavy enough to hold a joint, light enough not to bow a thin part.

Ten because seams are long. Two clamps hold a joint at its ends and let the middle open.

The specification

Everything we know about this item, stated plainly. The same record is printed on the card in the box.

Fits
Opens to 25 mm, jaw face 14 mm wide. Closing force approximately 4 N, which holds a styrene seam without bowing sheet down to 0.5 mm.
Service life
Several years. The failure mode is the spring taking a set from being stored fully open - keep them closed. The check is the closing force: a clamp that no longer closes firmly onto a 1 mm shim has softened and should be discarded rather than trusted on a seam.
Composition
Acetal body with a stainless torsion spring. Jaw faces flat and lightly textured.
Dimensions
62 mm long, jaw face 14 mm, opens to 25 mm
Weight
8 g each; 80 g for the set of ten
Made
Moulded and sprung in Taiwan, packed in Georgia.

Fitting & care

  • Store them closed, not clipped over the edge of something.
  • Put a strip of masking tape under the jaw on a finished surface.
  • Wipe cement squeeze-out off the jaw before it sets, or the next part sticks to the clamp.

Cautions

  • Not for clamping anything under tension or over a curve that wants to spring back - the force is light by design.
  • Not for use with heat or near a soldering iron; acetal deforms well below the temperature that plastic tolerates.
  • Not for holding parts while sanding. The grit embeds in the jaw texture and marks the next part.
