The four things worth owning before a first kit: something to take the part off the sprue cleanly, a surface to work on, something to hold a part while both your hands are busy, and four grades of abrasive to tidy the seam afterwards.
If you buy one item from this list on its own, make it the nippers. A clean shear at the gate removes a sanding step from every part in the box, and a box has hundreds of parts. Everything else here makes the work easier; the nippers make it better.
No knife and no blades. That is deliberate - most people already own a handle, the blade profile they prefer is a personal thing, and a starter kit is a poor place to guess it. Bought separately these come to one hundred and five dollars.

- Nothing in the kit is specific to a scale or a subject, and nothing in it needs anything else in it to work. The mat suits a rotary cutter and whatever cutter you already own.

- The sanding sticks are the consumable and will cover one to three kits. The nippers, mat and tweezers are all long-life tools - see each product page for its own wear check.

Fitting & care
- Read the nippers' cautions before the first cut. Plastic only - one cut in metal ends them.
